5 Things To Do After an Accident in Florida

At Scott J. Sternberg & Associates, P.A., in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, we work with many people who have been injured in auto accidents.

What we notice is that often when one of our clients has been in an accident, they fail to perform one or more of the five key actions to which every accident victim should attend.

Many times this is due to the fact that they have been traumatized by what has just happened to them, and, even though they know what should do, they fail to do those things.

Locations, We Are Serving For:

  • West Palm Beach, Florida
  • Boca Raton, Florida
  • Orlando, Florida

The First 5 Things “Must-Do’s” After a Car Accident in Florida:

Call 911

Car Accident in FloridaYou’ve had an accident. Call 911 immediately. You may also opt to contact the local police directly, but often, it is much easier to just hit three buttons on your cell and get the police, paramedics, and firefighters there.

If the accident involves injuries, then it makes total sense to get emergency personnel to the scene as soon as possible.

Gather Insurance Info

It is important to gather and share insurance information. If you are able to or someone else can who is with you, do so. If you are injured and no one can help you, you will want to get the number of the police report, as this should contain insurance information and other important facts regarding your Car Accident in Florida.

By the way, you may write out the information or, if you have a Smart Phone, Droid, or iPhone, you may take a picture of insurance cards. After taking any photos, make sure that they are clear. As a safeguard, immediately email them to yourself.

Document What Happened

Document what occurred. You may draw a sketch or description of the car accident scene, or, once again, if you have a phone with a camera and/or video app, you may document it in this manner. Again, for safekeeping, email this information to yourself.

Get names and contact information of any witnesses. The police will interview you. In talking to them, try to be as specific and clear as possible by relating the facts about what happened.

See a Doctor

To protect your rights and your ability to have your injuries and related medical expenses paid for, it is essential that you see a doctor as soon as possible after your Car Accident in Florida. If your injuries are serious, you’ll be transported to the hospital.

One thing to be aware of is the fact that right after an accident victims are often in shock, and many times, despite the best efforts of others around them, they resist seeking medical attention.

If You Have Been Injured In an Accident

CALL FOR HELP 561-687-5660

Many times those who are injured feel fine after a  car crash due to the body’s reaction, which is to shut down certain systems and shut out pain.

Later, people start to recognize and develop symptoms that indicate that they are, indeed, injured. Seek medical attention after you have been in a car accident. Your condition will be evaluated, injuries will be noted and administered to, and symptoms recorded.

Finally, remember that in Florida, you must seek medical attention within 14 days of your auto accident. If you do not, you lose your right to recover for injuries and damages.
